HRS 4.11 Managment Summary

Phase I - System Preparation

During phase I, EIT prepared a test environment to support the new release of the Human Resource System (HRS 4.11).

Phase II - Batch Testing by EIT

Once a suitable test environment was established, EIT proceeded with internally testing batch cycles. This batch testing insures that SCT software processes data without abending or producing major discrepancies.

Phase III - On-line Screen Testing (October 21st thru November 1st)

The purpose of this phase is to focus on screen functionality. Screens considered were those mention in release notes and those used during normal operations in each functional area. Phase three provided an opportunity for technical staff, EIT and Business Systems Support, to shadow the user community. The users educated technical staff on the business use of each on-line screen. The technical staff provided system usage expertise and support for any corrective actions that may be required.

Phase IV - Parallel Testing (November 4th thru November 14th)

The most exact form of testing is parallel testing. The data are fed into both computer systems, operational data in the current running production system and restored operational data established in the test environment. If the data are handled the same way in both systems, there is a much higher level of confidence that the new release processes data as expected. Business System Support will act as a liaison between each functional area and EIT to help facilitate/coordinate parallel testing. During this parallel testing, EIT will provide a test environment that can be used to compare processing with production. EIT will provide output from each environment, test and production, for comparison by the user community. The user community will review both production and test output to insure the results reconcile.

Phase V - Break the System (November 4th thru November 27th)

Testing on-line data entry with batch processing takes a deeper look at the new release. Up to now efforts have been made to test for what we know. This phase provides a challenge to break the system (i.e. what's unexpected or not known). Business System Support will act as a liaison between each functional area and EIT to help facilitate/coordinate testing needs. The users will submit test plans to BSS, enter test case scenarios and audit output, and EIT will provide batch processing support.

Phase VI - HRS 4.11 Implementation (November 28th thru December 1st)

The new release of HRS 4.11 will be implemented by EIT. EIT will use their implementation plan to move HRS release 4.11 into the production environment.

Phase VII - System Implementation Follow-up (December 2nd thru December 12th)

Business Systems Support, EIT, and the user community will reserve time during the two week period after implementation to closely monitor the new release. Time will be needed to scrutinize screen usage, review of output, batch processing logs, and potential system failures.
